The inner soul is referenced many times in IRRIS’ worldview so far. Therefore, this page will attempt to unpack what are the various meanings of the inner soul within the context of IRRIS’ lore.

What is the inner soul?

Shining or illuminating your inner soul seems to be the main goal of IRRIS, similar to how the Greek goddess herself does so. Perhaps IRRIS haven’t shined theirs yet, is in the process of doing so, or just learned how to shine their own. Although we don’t know what step of the process IRRIS is in, we have a few hints as to what shining your inner soul could possibly mean.

According to several press releases, IRRIS as a group aims to emit infinite light based on the symbol connections to the soul, freedom, and liberation. This connection is realized when the each member combines their fantasy self with their real self to break through into a new world to become one. Therefore creating this third self is connecting to shining your inner soul.

Additionally, there possibly is a connection between their inner souls and the colors they possess which would explain why it’s the acronym used to describe the group officially when they went on radio broadcast. Light (specifically white light) itself is a combination of all colors in the color spectrum while darkness is the absence of it. Therefore, this light that they possess to shine on their inner souls is essentially a rainbow.

• Finding true love

  In a press release, it is revealed that through their music, IRRIS aims to emit an infinite light based on the symbols of connection with the soul, freedom, and liberation. So looking at the themes presented in their debut mini album should help identify what the inner soul may be. In their debut mini album, WANNA KNOW, IRRIS tell the story of realizing a frustrating love that lacks proper communication is no longer worth it, breaking up with that love, and attempting to find something new through their three tracks: WANNA KNOW, BYE BYE, and STAY WITH ME. Therefore, we can say that finding a true love that would light up their hearts (which is connected to their soul given the importance of hearts in their logo imagery) is one of the ways their inner souls can be illuminated. It’s also important to note that the themes of liberation and freedom can be found throughout these songs as well as they sing about freeing themselves from a toxic relationship.

• Becoming all colors

  • Colors in a literal sense

    Each of the members are given representative colors that are somehow reflected in the prism stones they were given as well. So their prism stones which hold as a symbol for their personalities is connected to these literal representations of colors. Perhaps each member has a personality trait that the others don’t possess as well and when all members can become like the rainbow they’re not only closer to their goddess self (inspired by the goddess of rainbows) but they’re also closer to representing a more well rounded personality that contains all the colors of the rainbow. It’s important to note that in a general sense personality is very tied to the soul so this interpretation makes a lot of sense.

  • Colors in a metaphorical sense

    If we go with the idea that IRRIS’ lore is truly a continuation of REDSQUARE’s then we need to address the metaphorical meaning behind the colors in their lore as it can hold some significance to understanding what it means to be all colors or “ColorFull”. In RSQ’s title track color is used as a symbol for an indescribable place where an indescribable love that is in a Romeo and Juliet type situation due to a black and white world is able to exist. This type of place doesn’t exist yet but the girls singing attempts to create by painting themselves and their loved ones in all colors. Throughout the song, color is also used as a symbol for feelings towards each other and personality. So perhaps your inner soul is illuminated when you’re able to express who you love and how you feel through all the colors of the rainbow in a place (this new third world) free from the judgments of society.

• Become more of your true self

  This interpretation so far relies more on speculated information from teasers and information from their art director’s IG story. First, this is the easiest interpretation of the inner soul because the inner soul is often associated with the true nature of a person in colloquial terms. Second, after releasing a series of teasers of the initial member reveal videos as pictures with each of the members representative colors shining over a still from the video in an aura like manner and phrases that represent each of the members names, more teasers were released or representative objects for each of the members. IRRIS’ art director posted the picture below after the last two members’ representative objects were revealed. Therefore these objects are somehow involved in realizing who each member is and shining their inner souls.
